Just as the stalks of the giant fennel (ferula communis) served as vessels to carry fire in ancient times, Agonium Nethuns II is an authentic machine for preserving life. Clad in its imposing bronze or silver ‘shell’ that is water-resistant to 200 metres, the new Strom model is inspired by the world twenty thousand leagues under the sea. Like something straight out of the wildest childhood dreams and named after the Etruscan ocean god, it evokes both the retro-futurist world of Jules Vernes and the underwater kingdom.

Of the four known elements, water is undoubtedly that which most inspires life. In a state of perpetual motion, it flows from springs to streams and from rivers to oceans before returning to the sky and being reborn as rain. A perpetual cycle that has greatly inspired Daniel Strom for the creation of his fifth allegorical universe.

Hand-finished, individually numbered Nethuns II is an authentic diving instrument meeting international water-resistance and safety norms. Its unique construction is based on a sculpted additional outer case fitted over a perfectly watertight case. A sturdy screw-locked crown at 9 o’clock serves to adjust an inner diving bezel, offering a particularly sophisticated solution that prevents any inadvertent handling.

NETHUNS II like every watch in the collection AGONIUM, comprises two cases. The robust and hermetic inner case houses the movement. The outer case brings the artistic dimension and gives free rein to the sculptor’s talent. Each one is fashioned by hand, never two the same, with limited editions in each alloy. A sculpture first. Well, while not being entirely shatterproof, ceramic is still among the most durable materials out there. Zirconium dioxide is extremely scratch-resistant and very capable of withstanding exposure to acids and UV radiation. So, at the end, with Omega Dark Side of the Moon, we get heavily upgraded legend – a true Moonwatch of the 21st century.

From the stylistic point of view, a very few watches can stand tall in a direct comparison with Omega Dark Side of the Moon. The way the ceramic is treated is a joy to behold. With a finish that in a way emulates finish of stainless steel watches, Omega did a marvelous job by mixing the polished and brushed surfaces, creating a watch that is very stylish despite its masculine proportions. In this case, black is definitely a new black!

Borrowing heavily from the company’s rich heritage, Dark Side of the Moon is the watch that can be instantly recognized as a full-blooded Speedmaster. Of course, this is a very good thing, especially from the marketing point of view. Linking it with Omega’s arguably biggest success, Omega Speedmaster Pro (the first and the only watch worn on the Moon, by none other than Buzz Aldrin) will bring tons of old customers and space-program enthusiasts. For the new ones – let’s be honest and say that, despite its technical excellence, this is one very fashionable timepiece that will be a flying success among customers less interested in its (huge) horological values, and more in the pure style.

Technical details are also very impressive. The beating heart of this remarkable watch is Omega’s pride and joy, still relatively new caliber 9300, the automatic chronograph movement with column wheel and Omega’s trademark co-axial escapement. The movement is adjusted to five positions and, of course, is COSC certified. Caliber 9300 is widely regarded as one of the best automatic chronographs ever produced and its level of decoration (yes, it is visible through the transparent caseback) is absolutely astonishing.

I must be honest and say that particular version that I had in my hands isn’t the most legible watch around. But, its slick combination of black on black, with more than impressive matte finish of the dial and hands, looks so good that legibility issues simply becomes irrelevant. Its stealth effect is both stylish and macho, this is the watch that one can very well imagine with a black suit as well as with a casual minimal look.

So, at the end of the day, I really think that Omega scored with this one. While there are many worthy competitors out there, with most prominent Tudor Black Shield among them, Omega Dark Side of the Moon can be easily considered a “leader of the pack”. With its high-quality case, modern and stylish design and technical excellence, this watch presents a wonderful combination of various elements that make one product a hit that will last way longer than couple of seasons.

The answer is actually not that simple. On the one hand, we have both retro and modern Tudors, with a built quality similar to the Rolex watches and with better water resistance and complications, and on the other – a brand recognition like no other in the business. The name of Rolex was, is and always will be a status symbol per se. While many wouldn’t recognize latest Tudor’s offering, literally everybody will know what it’s all about at the first glance of the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200. And that is a force to reckon. But, let’s check out the watch itself.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 is an entry-level watch. Well, at least in a way, because with a price tag of more than 5000$ it’s hardly an inexpensive one. Anyway, being an entry-level doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll get the shorter end when buying it. On the contrary, this is the watch that is absolutely fantastic and, in my humble opinion, maybe the quintessential Rolex, if there ever was one. With its case size of 34 mm, one may say that it is too small for today’s standards. I must strongly disagree. This is the watch that is so well designed and so perfectly balanced that size really doesn’t matter. Yeah, there are bigger fishes in the pond, but let’s be honest – who in his right mind would like to mess with a piranha? Despite its modest size, this watch doesn’t wear small. It is as substantial as any other stainless steel Rolex, with iconic Oyster bracelet that is among the best in the business and with a new, redesigned clasp which is an enormous improvement over the older models. Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 is made of 904L steel, a highly durable super-alloy that became legendary for its incredible resistance to corrosion. Water resistance is 100 m or 330 ft, which makes it well suited for all kinds of recreational activities in the water. It is powered by the ubiquitous caliber 3130, a proven workhorse that is, above all, made to last. It is well known for its precision and accuracy and is, of course, COSC certified.

This model is available with few different dial colors, and for our review we chose beautiful champagne dial. The dial in golden tones with light sunburst effect is absolutely gorgeous and one of the main reasons for choosing this particular watch. Its color is both fashionable and elegant, very modern in every way, yet with distinguished retro vibe that is present every time you look at the watch. To call it a watch for every occasion would be an understatement, but it is just what this watch is all about – a discreet all-rounder with heritage like no other and with nobility deeply rooted in it. This is the watch that goes well with sports equipment and swimming trunks as well as with some serious business attire. Its quality is simply amazing. Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 is one rock-solid timepiece that gives you that much needed feeling of freedom that you can do literally anything without even thinking that you have 5000$ watch strapped on your wrist.

So, at the end of the day, is Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 really worth the premium price over the likes of Tudor Black Bay and Pelagos? In my opinion, it certainly is. Like I said before, this is the watch that is both sporty and elegant, with such brand recognition that simply cannot be beaten, even by its bestselling stable-mate. Wearing it makes you feel proud for accomplishing such a feat, and by that I mean owning the watch that will one day become your own legacy and heritage of some sort. When it comes to entry-level watches, Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 is the best there is, a full-thoroughbred Rolex that is both joy to see and own.

It all started with simple Omega Seamaster quartz in „Goldeneye“ and since those days, Omega and Bond have stood side by side in a lucrative marketing deal that has proven extremely effective for both brands. What is also gone is a metal bracelet. Since the Sean Connery’s iconic turn as an agent in her Majesty secret service, a real Bond-watches were worn on NATO straps. Omega finally realized that and offered this limited edition Seamaster with fantastic fabric strap, strongly reminiscent of the one worn by Sean Connery in „Dr. No“.

Every Omega Seamaster 300 “Spectre” timepiece will have engraved its unique serial number, along with the „Spectre“ logo on the caseback and „007“ on the strap holder.
